Troubleshooting

Q1:Can I write Access, Word, or Excel Automation code that works with any version of Outlook?
A1: Yes, with some limitations:
  • Only reference Outlook objects and methods that exist in the oldest version of Outlook you need to support.

  • If there is a reference set to the Outlook object library, remove it.

  • Use late binding of variables—declare all Outlook variables as Object—so the correct object library can be referenced when the code is run.

Q2:Why does my code stop on a line using the Nz function?
A2: The Nz function is specific to Access VBA; set a reference to the Access 9.0 object library, and the function will work.
Q3:I tried to create Word custom document properties from Outlook VBA code, to avoid having to create them manually, but I just got an error message when I tried to run the code. How can I create custom document properties programmatically?
A3: Unfortunately, you can't create custom document properties from code; the Word CustomDocumentProperties collection is a read-only collection. You must first create custom document properties in the Word interface before you can reference them in code.
