Controlling Other Office Applications from Outlook

With the introduction of VBA to Outlook 2000, it has become much easier to write Automation code to control other Office applications from Outlook. The following sections show you how to control Access, Word, and Excel from Outlook, using Automation code in Outlook macros.

Importing Data from an Access Database into Outlook

If you have created an Access database with a table of contacts, or other name and address-type information, you may want to import the data into Outlook, creating new Contact items from the Access data. While Outlook 2000 does include a built-in Import and Export Wizard (available from the File menu), this Wizard only imports to standard Outlook items, so if you want to import Access data into items based on a custom form, with your own selection of custom fields, you need to write VBA code to do the import.
