Troubleshooting Fax Numbers

Although you can sometimes get away with using the ordinary format for entering recipients' fax numbers for your contacts, this doesn't always work. To be on the safe side, you should always use the international, known as the canonical, format for fax numbers.

Outlook can create phone numbers formatted in this way automatically. After you've entered a phone number in a Contacts form, press Tab to move the insertion point to a different box. Then double-click the phone number. Outlook displays a Check Phone Numbers dialog box with the number converted to the international format. Choose OK to close the dialog box. You can use the same method to convert a phone number in an existing Contact item to the international format.
