Part IX: Appendixes > Backing Up Outlook

Backing Up Outlook

A complete backup of Outlook consists of more than just making a copy of your Personal Folders file. In addition to copying the .PST files that you use, you also need to copy the other files listed previously in this appendix. Copying the recommended files will allow you to retain the customizations that have been done to make Outlook look and work the way you want. Making an export copy of the registry keys listed previously will preserve the Outlook settings and customizations that are not kept in separate files.

To learn more about backing up Outlook, look in the Microsoft Knowledge Base at articles Q168644 and Q181014. These articles were written for earlier versions of Outlook, but the information applies to Outlook 2000. There will also be Knowledge Base articles that will be specifically written for Outlook 2000. More information on backing up Outlook is available at http://www.slipstick.com/exchange/olbackup.htm.
