Chapter 9. Managing Contacts > Creating Similar Contact Items

Creating Similar Contact Items

Outlook keeps information about each contact as a separate Contact item. Although each Contact item has a Spouse field, you can only save the spouse's name—there are no fields for the spouse's birthday or other personal information. Similarly, each Contact item has a Children field (this field is available in the All Fields tab). You can use the Children field to list children's names but there are no fields for other information about a contact's children. For your family contacts, therefore, you'll usually want to create a separate Contact item for each family member.

In the case of Contact items for organizations, one set of fields exists for a person's name. If you have several contacts within an organization, you'll need to have separate Contact items for each member of the organization.
