Planning Your Code

To plan your VBS code for a form, first decide what should happen when users work with your forms—for example, you might want to automatically open another form, send a message, or post a journal entry. In some cases, these tasks can be accomplished by creating custom actions, as described in Chapter 9, "Managing Contacts," but if you want a procedure to run automatically when an event occurs (that is, without any special effort by the user) you need to write an event procedure attached to the appropriate form event.

For example, if you want to be sure that a new contact's FileAs field is always filled by the selection with the Company name first, and the contact name in parentheses, it is best to just write this selection directly to the FileAs field from the Write event, rather than expecting users to make the appropriate selection manually.
