Chapter 41. Creating and Using Custom Fields > Why Do You Need Custom Fields?

Why Do You Need Custom Fields?

You may find that you can enter all the information you need into the available built-in fields displayed on a standard Outlook form. In that case, you don't need to create a custom form; you can just use one of the default forms. Even if you don't see all the fields you need on a standard form, suitable fields may still be available—not all the built-in fields are displayed in controls on the standard forms.

Tip

If you can use built-in fields for your needs, it's a good idea to do so—using built-in fields enables you to export data using the Import and Export command on the File menu, and simplifies referencing the fields in code, if you do need to write VBS or VBA code.
