Troubleshooting

What to Do If Word Confuses Your Data Source with Your Main Document

Chances are you were viewing the data source document when you reopened the Mail Merge Helper, so your data source document was accidentally chosen as the main document. Switch to the data source document and follow the procedure described previously to convert the data source document to a Normal Word document. Save the data source document and close it. Then, open the document you want to use as a main document, use the Mail Merge Helper to create the main document and then attach the data source document using the Get Data button in the Mail Merge Helper dialog box.

What to Do When Word Disregards Character Formatting in Your Data Source

Mail-merged information takes on the formatting of the merge field in the main document; any formatting you apply in the data source document is ignored. Format your merge fields in the main document to make merged data appear the way you want. You may also be able to use formatting switches available to Word fields to achieve the formatting you're looking for.
