Troubleshooting

What to Do If Find Can't Locate Text You Know Is Present

Try the following:

  • First, make sure you have spelled the text correctly in the Find What text box and you haven't added or left out spaces.

  • Make sure you haven't selected any text before you start searching. If you select text, Word searches only the selected text.

  • You may be searching in the wrong direction; make sure you see All in the Search list box.

  • You may have one or more of the check boxes at the bottom of the Find and Replace dialog box checked when it shouldn't be checked.

  • Check to make sure you didn't add formatting of some type to the search. The text may appear without formatting, but you may be searching for it with formatting. Click the No Formatting button to clear any unwanted formatting.

  • Be sure you didn't accidentally add any special characters, such as a paragraph mark or extra space, to the search.
