Chapter 12. Deploying Your Internet or I... > Setting Up Web Folders to Store File...

Setting Up Web Folders to Store Files on Your Web Server

Now that you have your IIS Web server up and running, it's time to look at a new tool for editing and writing files on the Web server: Web Folders. Web Folders are special folders that provide a direct shortcut to an IIS Web server. They enable you to transparently upload files directly to your Web server or even work with your Web pages directly from the Web server.

In Office 97, you had to invoke a separate process—the Web Publishing Wizard—to upload the Web pages you built in Word. This wizard is no longer needed by Word 2000. Now you can see Web Folders in Windows Explorer in the same way that you can see any other folder on your hard drive. So Web Folders are now accessible from Word 2000 when opening a File List box using the File, Open command from the menu. You can now work with the files on your Web server the same way you work with any other files or folders on your hard drive.
