Part VIII: Appendixes > Fixing Setup Problems

Fixing Setup Problems

Thanks to Windows Installer, Word 2000 Setup is a far more robust process than in previous Word versions. A "rollback" option, for example, tracks the actions of the Setup program as it works. If you click the Cancel button in the middle of the process, Setup uses this feature to undo any Registry changes or delete any files you've copied so far. If Setup is interrupted for any other reason—by a system crash or power failure, for example—you should be able to restart Setup and resume at the place where it stopped previously.

Note

Windows Installer creates a hidden folder called Config.msi to store files it removes during the Setup process so that you can roll back to the previous installation if necessary. If you find this folder on your computer after successfully installing Word 2000, you can safely eliminate it and recover the disk space without any dire consequences.
