Part VIII: Appendixes > Performing a Custom Installation

Performing a Custom Installation

When you click Install Now or Upgrade Now to install Word, Setup uses the following default options:

  • Program files go in a default location; you do not have an opportunity to specify a different location.

  • Setup removes your previous Word installation and replaces all installed programs, which migrates your personal settings and preferences to Word 2000.

  • Your current default browser is replaced with Internet Explorer 5.0. This option eliminates previous versions of Internet Explorer; however, it does not remove Netscape Navigator or other non-Microsoft browsers.

  • Setup installs a standard set of features. In the case of an upgrade, it automatically replaces all previously installed components with new versions, even if they're not part of the standard install.
