Secrets of the Office Masters: Using Functions to Group Dates

If you've created a table or query that includes a field full of dates, how do you collect those dates into groups by month, quarter, or year? Use a built-in Access date function to manipulate the contents of the date field and pull out a part of it. Create a calculated field as part of the query, using the DatePart function.

The syntax for this function, DatePart (datepart,date), includes two arguments. The first, datepart, includes one of the following codes, enclosed in quotation marks, to identify which part of the date you want to extract:
