Chapter 29. Using Calendar > Managing Your Personal Calendar

Managing Your Personal Calendar

If you ask 10 different management gurus for the secret of how to succeed in business, you'll probably get 10 different answers. But if you ask an office full of busy executives and their assistants how they manage to keep on schedule, every single one will tell you they couldn't have done it without their calendar. Then they'll begin arguing over whose scheduling system is most effective.

Outlook's Calendar folder can replace just about any paper-based time management system, from the ultra-simple (yellow sticky notes on the side of your computer monitor), to the traditional (the ubiquitous Day-at-a-Glance desk calendar), to the compulsive (a leather-bound Day-Timer organizer, six inches thick). Whether your temperament will let you make the switch from paper to pixels is another question completely. Although its printing capabilities are greatly improved from earlier versions, Outlook's calendaring features are best suited to people whose duties keep them close to a computer screen most of the time.
