Troubleshooting

Outlook Contacts As Data Source

When you use the Mail Merge Helper and specify the Outlook Address Book as the data source in step 2, you may see an error message that you can't use the Contacts list, because Outlook is not your default email client. The Mail Merge Helper says you should open Outlook and make it your default email client, but there's no such option.

The first time you open Outlook 2000, it asks whether you want Outlook to be your default email program. If you click No, there is no option inside Outlook that will enable you to change your mind, and the message from the Mail Merge Helper is just plain wrong. Instead, you have to make the change from Internet Explorer. Open the browser and choose Tools, Internet Options (View, Internet Options if you use IE4), or use the Internet option in Control Panel. Click the Programs tab. In the E-mail drop-down box, choose Microsoft Outlook (not Outlook Express!). Click OK. You may need to restart Windows before the change takes effect.
