Chapter 42. Linking Multiple Tables > Splitting a Table to Avoid Data Duplicati...

Splitting a Table to Avoid Data Duplication

After developing a table and working with it extensively over time, you may find yourself wishing that you had designed it differently. If your table contains too many fields, covering too broad a range of information, you'll end up with exactly the problem discussed at the beginning of this chapter: Some records will contain duplicate data, with the risk of ambiguity due to inaccurate data entries.

Access provides a convenient tool called the Table Analyzer Wizard that may provide a solution by helping you split a large table into smaller ones, eliminating duplicate data, adding keys, and creating relationships automatically. Like other Office wizards, it walks you through a complex process, with plenty of online help, examples, and the option to take control of specific decisions if you choose to do so.
