Chapter 2. Customizing the Office Interf... > Saving and Restoring Personal Settin...

Saving and Restoring Personal Settings

After you've painstakingly customized every Office application, what happens if you get a new PC? System backups can preserve your data files, but you need to take an extra step to make sure you capture all options and preferences in a format that you can easily restore to a new machine. The best tool for this task is the Office Profile Wizard, included as part of the Office 2000 Resource Kit.

Use the Office Profile Wizard to save an Office user profile that contains virtually all details of your Office configuration, including installed options, customizations, and even some data files. These settings are stored in an Office profile settings (*.ops) file. Run the Office Profile Wizard again to restore backed-up user settings on a new computer.
