Working with Commercial Printers

Today's office printers produce high-quality output. However, many situations arise in which you may want to send your output to a commercial printer instead. These scenarios include

  • Your print quantity makes it more economical to print your publication at a print shop.

  • You require spot color (one or two colors added to a black-and-white document), or process color—full color—in your publication and your office printer is not capable of producing the quality or quantity of prints that you need.

  • You require a higher quality of output (higher printer resolution) than is available from your office printer. Printing at resolutions of 1,200 dots per inch (dpi) or higher is available from commercial-quality printers. These higher resolutions reproduce photos and shading at a better quality than lower-resolution printing.
