Chapter 1. An Overview of Office 2000 > An Overview of Office 2000 Applications

An Overview of Office 2000 Applications

The basic lineup of programs in Microsoft Office 2000, Professional Edition, is essentially identical to those in Office 97. Overall, the package consists of five core applications—Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access—as well as a handful of smaller programs. A new Premium Edition of Office adds two new programs to the family: FrontPage and PhotoDraw. In addition, Microsoft has tossed a free copy of Publisher into every Office box, except for the standard edition. The sections that follow describe what's new in each of these applications.

Note

This book covers all the applications in the Professional and Premium editions of Office 2000. If you've purchased a different Office edition, the advice here applies just as well. In particular, anyone who uses the Standard edition of Office will find everything they need in here. The only Office components we don't cover are the Small Business Tools package (included in all Office editions except Standard) and the high-end programming tools in the Developers Edition.
