Part XI: Appendixes > Adding Support for Other Languages

Adding Support for Other Languages

Previous versions of Office used separate software packages for different languages. This was a particular problem for international organizations whose workers routinely created and edited documents in multiple languages. Office 2000, on the other hand, uses a single English version with plug-in language features to support different languages. Office language-support tools provide features for entering characters and editing text in other languages, for viewing online Help in a choice of languages, for quickly switching between languages used in menus and toolbars, and for checking spelling and grammar in more than one language.

For multilanguage support to work properly, you must install the Microsoft Office 2000 Multilanguage Pack. If you purchase a version of Office for a region other than the United States, the language pack is installed automatically when you set up Office. Administrators can install the Multilanguage Pack after Office is installed, or you can use the Custom Installation Wizard to specify that the Setup program for the Multilanguage Pack runs at the same time as Office Setup.
