Managing Employee Hours and Costs with PivotTables

You can use PivotTables to manage employee hours and costs. After observing several attempts to manage employee hours and costs, I've found the easiest solution to be a combination of a table, list, VLOOKUP, and then a PivotTable. Once set up, such a table requires minimal effort to manage. If you have employee hours in one database or list, and in another area have a table that has the employee rates, use the VLOOKUP function to combine the two and then pivot the list. To build an employee cost-tracking PivotTable, first set up the information. Figure 20.49 shows a table that contains the employee base rate and overtime rate.
