Moving data from Excel into Access is obviously the right move if the data started its life in Excel in the first place. But what if you didn't type the data yourself, or if it's not in an Excel workbook? This section describes how to get at database data wherever (and however) it might be stored.

Where Corporate Data Is Found: Relational Databases and ODBC

In most companies, the most likely place for important data is corporate databases. These databases might be Access databases, but they're more likely to be server databases, such as Oracle, DB2, or Microsoft SQL Server, running on large servers and managed by professional database administrators.
