Using Goal Seek

The Goal Seek feature in Excel uses a single variable to find a desired result. To understand Goal Seek, let's start with a simple scenario. Suppose that you're a sales representative for a packaging business. You must achieve $100,000 in sales this year to receive a bonus. Figure 22.1 shows a table that displays the current situation—you have sold 2,000 units of a product with a per-unit sales price of $3.46. How many units must you sell to achieve your $100,000 goal?

Note

The goal amount ($100,000 in this case) must be the result of a formula, not just plain data.
