Chapter 29. Recording and Editing a Macr... > Creating a Macro with the Macro Reco...

Creating a Macro with the Macro Recorder

The Macro Recorder records all your keyboard and mouse actions to a VBA macro. You use it like a tape recorder. Turn it on, complete the Excel task that you want to automate, and turn it off.

Author's Note

Before you begin to record a macro, ensure that you are familiar with the steps involved with the task to automate. A good practice is to write them down on a piece of paper, as in the following example, which details the steps required to print two copies of the entire workbook.

  1. Choose File, Print from the menu.

  2. Type 2 in the Number of Copies box.

  3. Choose Entire Workbook from the Print What option group.

  4. Click OK.

Remember that the Macro Recorder records everything you do, whether it's an intended step or an unintended step. Knowing the steps to record before beginning will make the macro easier to record and play back faster.
