Embedding Excel Data in Other Office Applications

Embeddingis the other half of OLE (object linking and embedding). As with linking, embedding places content from a source into a target document. Unlike linking, embedding also connects the source application itself to a target document. You could embed an Excel worksheet, for example, into a PowerPoint slide, giving you access to Excel's tools for creating a worksheet or using an existing worksheet to express important financial data. Because Excel's spreadsheet tools exceed those found in PowerPoint, this is a productivity-enhancing addition to the PowerPoint presentation.

Knowing When to Embed

Embed rather than link when you want the source data to become a permanent part of your target document, or when the source document will be unavailable (such as when the source document is on a file server and you're on the road, disconnected from the server).
