Why Change the Formatting?

You could build an entire workbook with no special formatting at all. Excel's default styles, fonts, alignments, and other settings for text and numbers are sufficient for the legible and accurate display and printing of worksheet data. As Figure 6.1 shows, a worksheet needs no special formatting to display text and numbers legibly.

Figure 6.1. Excel's default font is 10-point Arial, a very generic font that works for most basic text requirements.
