Troubleshooting

Distinguishing One Version of a File from Another

Q1:How do I determine which file is which?
A1: Aside from doing a visual check for differences in content, you can distinguish two different versions of an Excel file by checking the date and time modified for each file. You can see this information in the Open dialog box, Windows Explorer, or My Computer (in Details view), or by choosing File, Properties when the workbook is active onscreen. The Statistics tab in the Properties dialog box shows the date and time the file was last modified.

Creating a Template from an Existing Workbook

Q1:What if I've already added data to the file that I want to use as a template?
A1: Before you save the file as a template, save it one last time in its current format. Then delete any specific data, leaving only the labels, formulas, and any other text that you want to have on every worksheet created with the template. When you save the workbook as a template, the original file, prior to the deletions, will be left intact.
