Chapter 28. Customizing Excel to Fit You... > Customizing the Excel Menus

Customizing the Excel Menus

With all the options available in Excel, people can get carried away and add or change things in the setup or a workbook. By knowing how to change the environment, you can eliminate this risk by customizing the Excel environment on your computer or those of other users. Changing the menus also can simplify or improve your own use of Excel. Customizing the menus and customizing the toolbars in Excel are closely related operations—both are fairly simple tasks that use the Customize dialog box.

Suppose that you have a worksheet you want someone to use to input information, but you don't want that user to be able to manipulate the file in any way. Figure 28.25 shows a custom setup for this type of situation—providing a single menu item, File, and removing the Standard and Formatting toolbars.
