Understanding the Notes Workspace

Think of a workspace as a file cabinet drawer that holds pointers, or icons, to all of the databases you need to complete your work at the office. Each item you see in the Notes workspace has a function that helps you navigate the Notes window and complete your work efficiently. Table 2.1 describes the elements of the Notes window.

Control menu button (application)Provides commands such as Move, Size, Minimize, and Close with which you control the application window.
Control menu button (workspace)Provides commands such as Move, Size, Minimize, and Close with which you control the workspace window.
Maximize buttonEnlarges the Notes window to cover the Windows 95 desktop; when the window is maximized, the Maximize button changes to a Restore button that you can click to return the window to its previous size.
Minimize buttonReduces the Notes window to a button on the taskbar; to restore the window to its original size, click the button on the taskbar.
Workspace Restore buttonReturns the maximized workspace window to its previous size; when the workspace window is restored, you can display other workspace windows in the applicationwindow.
Close (X) buttonCloses (exits) the Notes program.
Title barContains the name of the current workspace and the program's name, or if you are in a database, describes where you are in that database; also displays a description of selected menu commands.
Menu barContains the menus you use to perform tasks in Notes.
SmartIconsEnable you to perform tasks quickly by clicking the mouse on an icon in the SmartIcon bar.
Workspacepage tabsEnable you to change pages within the workspace; click a page tab to change to that page.
Workspace pageHolds database icons.
DatabasesContain collections of documents relating to the same topic; double-click a database icon to open it.
Mouse pointerEnables you to access menus and perform tasks.
Status barPresents information about the selected item.
