Fields of information stored in records (documents) that you see through forms are accessed by looking at a view. A view contains a list of documents and displays the contents of specified fields in those documents; it acts like a table of contents for the documents in the database. The Inbox view of mail is nothing more than a listing of the documents (mail) you've received with the contents of the From field, the date the document was delivered, and the Subject field displayed (see Figure 1.3). When you want to read your mail, double-click the piece of mail in the view to read your mail document through a form (the mail memo form).
