Most Useful Excel Functions

The old adage generally holds true: 20% of the whole generally accounts for 80% of the results. It's true in your use of Excel functions, too. You'll find that about 20% of the available Excel functions will satisfy most of your needs. In this section, you learn about the most-used (and most broadly useful) Excel functions. When your needs go beyond these functions, refer to Appendix A of this book to explore other available Excel functions. You can then use the Paste Function dialog box and the Formula Palette to tap the power of the other Excel functions.

ABS

The ABS function returns the absolute number of a single argument number. If the argument is a negative number, a positive number is returned, and if the argument is a positive number, a positive number is returned. The syntax is as follows:
