Using the File Conversion Wizard

You undoubtedly know that Excel can open spreadsheet files from many different spreadsheets, such as Lotus 1-2-3, Quattro Pro, Microsoft Works, and other types of files that contain similar types of data. Once open, you can then save such files into Excel's native .XLS format using the Save As command.

If you want to convert a large number of files from a non-Excel format into Excel workbooks, you can laboriously open each one and then save each one into Excel's native workbook format. However, an easier way exists. The File Conversion Wizard is designed expressly for this purpose and takes the drudgery out of converting many files. With it, you can convert multiple files in a single folder into Excel's .XLS format from any of these source types:
