Chapter 5. Printing Worksheets > Adding Headers and Footers

Adding Headers and Footers

If you print a worksheet, you may wonder why the sheet name and page number appear at the top and bottom of the worksheet. These are the default header and footer that print on all worksheets unless you change them. You may want to use different information such as the date, the worksheet title, or your name; or you may not want to use any headers or footers. You can select to use another predefined header or footer, turn off the header or footer, or create a custom header or footer.

Before you go to the trouble of creating a custom header or footer, check some of the ones Excel has set up for you. Excel provides many combinations of the key data you are likely to want to include: your name, page number, sheet name, company name, workbook name, and date.
