Chapter 25. Integrating Excel with Any O... > Common Problems and Solutions

Common Problems and Solutions

Q1:I used the Insert, Object command to create a new object with an application that is listed in the dialog box, but Excel can't seem to find the application. What's wrong?
A1: You might have deleted the directory that contains the application without actually uninstalling the program. Because the information about the program is still in the Windows Registry, the program name appears when you choose Insert, Object. When you want to remove a program, make sure you use the Add/Remove Hardware icon in the Windows Control Panel. In order to use the object that isn't working, you'll probably have to reinstall the application.
Q2:How can I copy a multiple selection to the Clipboard?
A2: You can't. There are several commands that Excel won't perform on a multiple selection, and copying is one of them.
Q3:I received a file with a .txt extension, but I can't import it using the Text Import Wizard. What's wrong?
A3: It's possible that the file isn't a text file. Whoever created it may have mistakenly given the file a .txt extension even though it's not a text file. Check with whoever sent you the file to see what program it was created in and what file format was selected.
