Copying Formatting with the Format Painter Tool

Once you get a range formatted the way you want it, you may like the look so much that you want to use it on other cells or ranges in the worksheet. Instead of going through all the same formatting steps again, you can copy the formatting with the Format Painter button on the Standard toolbar.

  1. Select the cell or cells that contain the formatting you want to copy.

  2. Then click the Format Painter button on the toolbar. The mouse pointer displays a little paintbrush next to the cross, as shown in Figure 4.19.

  3. Select the cells that you want to format with the same options. When you release the mouse button, Excel applies the formatting to the selected range.
