Using the Validate Data Feature to Reduce Errors

In some worksheets, you might want certain columns or rows to contain specific kinds of data entries, particularly if another user will be adding information to the worksheet you create. You can set up criteria using Excel's Validate Data feature. This feature lets you establish input for a cell or range of cells, and if the data entered doesn't match the criteria you set up, an error message or prompt appears.

For example, let's say you create an inventory worksheet with criteria assigned to the type of data entered into the inventory columns. If another user attempts to update the worksheet and enters data that doesn't match the criteria you establish, a warning or prompt box appears.
