Chapter 3. Entering and Editing Data > Speeding Up Data Entry

Speeding Up Data Entry

To make it as quick as possible to create a worksheet, Excel provides some automated features for entering data. For example, if you find yourself entering repetitive data or a data series, such as days of the month or week, you can use Excel's fill features to automatically finish entering the information for you. Another example is Excel's AutoCorrect feature, which automatically corrects your typing mistakes as you type.

Using AutoCorrect

To keep your entries accurate, Excel's AutoCorrect feature is turned on by default. AutoCorrect recognizes commonly misspelled words and automatically corrects them as you type. For example, if you type "adn," AutoCorrect automatically changes the spelling to "and" as soon as you press the spacebar or the Enter key. If there are certain words you constantly type incorrectly, you can add them to the AutoCorrect list.
