Chapter 3. Entering and Editing Data > Using Name References in Formulas

Using Name References in Formulas

If you've assigned names to the ranges in your worksheet, you can easily use a range name to speed up formula building. If you know the range name, you can type it into the formula. But if you don't, you easily can paste the name into the formula using the Paste Name dialog box. To paste a name into a formula:

  1. When you come to a place in the formula where you want to insert a name, activate the worksheet or workbook containing the name.

  2. Choose Insert, Name, Paste. The Paste Name dialog box appears (see Figure 3.24).

Figure 3.24. Use range names from the Paste Name dialog box to paste into formulas.

  3. Select the range name you want to use from the Paste Name list box.

  4. Click OK to exit the dialog box.

  5. Return to the current worksheet and continue building the formula.
