Part IV: Creating and Using Excel Databa... > Retrieving Data with the Query Wizar...

Chapter 16. Retrieving Data with the Query Wizard

  • Setting up Microsoft Query

Quickly install Microsoft Query and you can use the Query Wizard to choose the data you want to extract from your external database.

  • Choosing data to query

Choose the database that contains information you want to use in your worksheet.

  • Working with your data

Choose the items you want to use in your query. Then you can filter your data so that you use only the data you need. And you can save your queries so you can use them over again.

If you use a dedicated database program such as Access, Paradox, or dBase, you may find yourself faced with a desire to pull information from your database right into an Excel spreadsheetwhere you can manipulate numbers more easily. Microsoft Query is a program that enables you to do just that.
