Securing Workbooks

All users who have access to the network location where a shared workbook is stored have the same access to the shared workbook. If you want to prevent certain types of access to a shared workbook, you can protect the shared workbook and the change history. You'll find there are several levels of protection you can place on a worksheet.

Setting a Password to Open a File

One method of protection you can assign is password protection for the entire workbook. If you assign a password to a workbook, anyone who tries to open the file must know the password to gain access. A workbook cannot be shared when you assign a password to it.
