Chapter 32. Building Solutions with VBA > Automating the Office Assistant

Automating the Office Assistant

Your VBA code can control the appearance and behavior of the Office Assistant that comes with Office 97. The Assistant's message balloon functions much like a message box, presenting information and asking questions. You can also instruct the Assistant to perform one of its animations, which are predesigned by the creator of the Assistant.

The Assistant object in Excel gives you access to a set of properties and methods for working with the Assistant. It's a good idea to check the user's preferences for working with the Assistant before displaying the Assistant in your own code. The following code fragment checks the AssistWithAlerts property of the Assistant object to see whether the user wants to see the Assistant. If the property is set to True, the Assistant is displayed; if it's not, a more traditional message box is used.
