Sorting Data

Sort your database quickly by the items in any single field. Click any cell (even the header row) in the field by which you want to sort, then click the A-Z sort button to sort alphabetically or chronologically from A to Z or lowest to highest number. Click the Z-A sort button to sort in reverse. Excel knows the boundaries of your database and knows that the first row contains headers; it sorts the entire database by the field you have chosen.

Caution

Sorting your database using the sort buttons on the Excel toolbar results in a sort of the visible database. If part of your database was hidden by the AutoFilter feature, the sort will apply only to the records you see on-screen. When you return the entire database to the screen, resort the database if you want to enforce a particular sort for the entire database.
