Changing Chart Data

Certain types of charts, most particularly the Bar, Column, Line, and XY Scatter charts, let you directly modify their data by selecting a data point and moving it manually. When you do this, the underlying data in the worksheet changes to reflect the new position of the data point. To change a data point in this fashion, follow these steps:

  1. Click once to select a series.

  2. Pause for a second, then click again on an individual data point to select it (you pause to avoid executing a double-click).

  3. Drag the data point up or down, as appropriate. A ToolTip appears that shows you the exact value that will be achieved when you "drop" the data point.
