Creating Trend Lines

Trend lines take the data from a series on a chart, and calculate the trend of the data being charted. From the trend, you can often see how the data looks "smoothed," and you can also use trend lines to predict values that aren't available, such as missing data or forward-looking values. Trend lines can be based on a number of different mathematical models, as shown in Table 11.1.
