Area Charts

Area charts combine aspects of line, pie, and stacked column charts for when you want to show changes over time but also put an emphasis on the total of all series combined. For instance, Figure 12.17, shows sales figures for four quarters displayed with an area chart. Notice how easy it is to see how the contribution of each series contributes to the whole at each measurement point, how trends in that contribution are made clear, and how easy it is to see the total for all series combined. Table 12.5 lists the area chart subtypes available.
