Saving a Presentation

Soon after creating a presentation, you should save it on disk to protect the work you have already done. To save a presentation for the first time, follow these steps:

  1. Select File, Save, or press Ctrl+S, or click the Save button on the Standard toolbar. The Save dialog box appears.

  2. In the File name text box, type the name you want to assign to the presentation. Do not type a file extension; PowerPoint automatically adds the extension .PPT (see Figure 6.1).

    Note

Upgrade Tip Because PowerPoint 97 is a 32-bit application, you are not limited to the old 8-character file names, as you were with PowerPoint versions designed for Windows 3.x. Your file names can be as long as you like (within reason-the limit is 255 characters) and can include spaces.

  3. The Save In box shows which folder the file will be saved in. The default is My Documents. If you want to save to a different drive or folder, see the next section in this lesson. Otherwise, continue to step 4.

  4. Click Save.
