Lesson 12. Creating Columns and Lists > Using Indents to Create Lists

Using Indents to Create Lists

Indents allow you to move one or more lines of a paragraph in from the left margin. PowerPoint uses indents to create the bulleted lists you encountered in previous lessons. You can use indents in any text object to create a similar list or your own custom list. To indent text, perform the following steps:

  1. Select the text box that contains the text you want to indent.

  2. If you already typed text, select the text you want to indent.

  3. If the ruler is not visible, select View, Ruler.

  4. Drag one of the following indent markers to set the indents for the paragraph. (These indent markers appear on the ruler, as shown in Figure 12.4.)

Drag the top marker to indent the first line.

Drag the bottom marker to indent all subsequent lines.

Drag the box below the bottom marker to indent all the text.

  5. (Optional) To turn the ruler off, select View, Ruler.
