Lesson 12. Creating Columns and Lists > Changing the Bullet Character

Changing the Bullet Character

By default, whenever you click on the Bullet button on the Formatting toolbar to insert a bullet, PowerPoint inserts a large dot for the bullet. However, you can change the appearance of the bullet at any time by following these steps:

  1. Select the paragraph(s) in which you want to change the bullet character.

  2. Select Format, Bullet. The Bullet dialog box appears (see Figure 12.3).

Figure 12.3. The Bullet dialog box lets you choose an alternate bullet character.

  3. Pull down the Bullets From list, and select the character set from which you want to choose a bullet. The dialog box displays the characters in the selected set.

Which Character Set? Each character set is nothing more than a font that's installed on your computer. Some fonts are better suited for bullets than others-open several and examine the characters each one contains. Wingdings is a good choice.

  4. Click on the character you want to use for the bullet. When you click on a character, PowerPoint shows it enlarged so you can see it clearly, as shown in Figure 12.3.

  5. To set the size of the bullet, use the up and down arrows to the right of the Size text box. Notice that the size of the bullet is not a fixed value-it is relative to the text around it.

  6. To select a color for the bullet, pull down the Special Color drop-down list and select the desired color.

  7. Click OK. PowerPoint changes the bullet character for all selected paragraphs.
