Lesson 11. Adding Text to a Slide > Editing Text in a Text Box

Editing Text in a Text Box

To edit text in a text box, first click anywhere inside the text box to select it; then, perform any of the following steps:

  • To select text, drag the I-beam pointer over the text you want to select. (To select a single word, double-click on it. To select an entire paragraph, triple-click.)

    Tip

Auto Word Select When you drag over text, PowerPoint selects whole words. If you want to select individual characters, select Tools, Options, click the Edit tab, and deselect the Automatic Word Selection check box.

  • To delete text, select the text and press the Delete key. You can also use the Delete or Backspace keys to delete single characters to the right or left of the insertion point, respectively.

  • To insert text, click the I-beam pointer where you want to insert the text and type the text.

  • To replace text, select the text you want to replace and type the new text. When you start typing, PowerPoint deletes the selected text.

  • To copy and paste text, select the text you want to copy and choose Edit, Copy, click the Copy button on the Standard toolbar, or press Ctrl+C. Move the insertion point to where you want the text pasted (it can be in a different text box) and choose Edit, Paste, click the Paste button, or press Ctrl+V.

  • To cut and paste (move) text, select the text you want to cut and choose Edit, Cut, click the Cut button on the Standard toolbar, or press Ctrl+X. Move the insertion point to where you want the text pasted (it can be in a different text box), and choose Edit, Paste, click the Paste button, or press Ctrl+V.
