Creating a New Style

You are not limited to using Word's predefined styles. In fact, creating your own styles is an essential part of getting the most out of Word's style capabilities. One way to create a new style is "by example," as follows:

  1. Find a paragraph that you want the new style applied to.

  2. Format the paragraph as desired. In other words, apply the formatting you want included in the new style definition.

  3. With the insertion point anywhere in the paragraph, click the Style drop-down arrow or press Ctrl+Shift+S (both activate the Style list).

  4. Type the new style name and press Enter.
